Rev. Dr. Lewanda D. Miller is a transformative collaborator who loves God and his people. She is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In November 2021, Rev. Dr. Lewanda became the Pastor of St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Harlem, New York, where she is honored to serve with faithful leaders and members.
Rev. Dr. Lewanda Miller's ministerial journey began at The Greater Allen AME Cathedral of New York under the leadership of the Revs. Drs. Floyd and Elaine Flake. As an Associate Minister, She served as Discipleship and Bible Study teacher, Chapel Leader, Intercessor, and Spiritual Advisor of Girl’s Rites of Passage, Women Season Registration Committee, and HEAR Deaf Ministry, which she formerly directed. Rev. Dr. Lewanda also served as the Minister to Youth at Bridge Street AME and completed her supervised ministry internship at Carter Community AME.
During her ministry, Rev. Dr. Lewanda Miller served connectionally as a former member of the New York Conference Health Commission, and a current member of the New York Conference Women in Ministry. Most recently Rev. Dr. Lewanda was called by the NY Conference WIM Executive Board to design and Chair the New York Conference Women in Ministry Mentoring Program (WIMMEN). In July 2023, Rev. Dr. Lewanda Miller was elected as the Chaplain of the AME Ministerial Alliance of NY and Vicinity.
Rev. Dr. Lewanda Miller is academically and professionally trained in Administration, Education, Theological Studies, Mental Health Counseling, and American Sign Language. In May 2023, She completed a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership at Drew Theological Seminary. Rev. Dr. Lewanda also works as the Administrative Coordinator of Student Services at CUNY NYC College of Technology. She is a member of the CUNY Interfaith Council, which encourages unity and community building so students, staff, and faculty feel safe to practice and speak of their faith to build a unified CUNY community.
Communally, in 2018, Rev. Dr. Lewanda Miller led the inaugural interpreting team at the 104th Hampton Ministers Conference for two consecutive years and returned to interpret in 2023. Rev. Dr. Lewanda preaches, prays, and presents workshops in a host of churches and organizations. Her call is to educate and empower generations of believers for Jesus Christ, especially women, youth, families, and the differently abled through preaching, teaching, counseling, signing, and love.
